Thailand's justice minister Somsak Thepsuthin welcomed a new era in Thai/French relations when it comes to crime busting.

The French authorities in Thailand through the embassy have requested assistance in two cases.

The first involves an international gang of money launderers connected to the drug trade. Money has been transferred to a Thai account and the drug suppression authorities have been assigned the case.

The second involves the sale of illegal goods and other transfers to Thailand and is connected to money laundering and tax evasion charges. The department of special investigations or DSI are onto this one and are anxious to act swiftly so the gang do not change their methods.

Somsak said that this cooperation represented the first of its kind between the two nations and comes ahead of a seminar to be organised by the French involving ASEAN nations regarding international crime.
