Heavy rain for much of Thailand in next 24 hours as Molave approaches

Powerful Typhoon Molave is expected to weaken into a tropical storm when it hits Thailand’s northeast later today. It will bring widespread heavy and isolated very heavy rainfall to several northeastern, eastern and southern provinces today and tomorrow, according to the Thai Meteorological Department this morning (Wednesday).

 

Provinces expected to be affected by the storm are:

 

Loei

Sakhon Nakhon

Nakhon Phanom

Kalasin

Maha Sarakham

Roi-et

Yasothon

Muk Dahan

Amnat Charoen

Chaiyaphum

Khon Kaen

Nakhon Ratchasima

Buri Ram

Surin

Si Sa Ket

Ubon Ratchathani

Nakhon Nayok

Prachin Buri

Sa Kaew

Chanthaburi

Trat in the East

Phetchaburi

Prachuap Khiri Khan

Chumpon

Surat Thani

Ranong

Phang-nga

Phuket

Krabi

Trang

Satun

 

The Met Office said that Molave was packing 155kph winds at its centre at 4am this morning, was located at about 120km to the east of Binh Dinh, in Central Vietnam, and it is moving in northwestern direction at a speed of about 30kph.

 

After making landfall in central Vietnam, it said that the typhoon will weaken into a tropical storm, as it heads for Thailand’s northeast.

 

The Met Office also warned people, living in lowlands or at the feet of mountains, to brace for possible floods.
