Report : Chaeng Wattana Non-Immigrant O Visa application for being parent of Thai child.

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Today we were in CW to  apply for a Non-Immigrant O visa for being the father of a Thai child.

We ( my daughter, her mom and me) arrived at CW at around 8.45 AM. We got a queue ticket for C1 counter. Only 3 people before us.

9.10 AM we were in front of the IO.

Hereafter the list of Documents I have prepared.

  •  Passport & copy

  • TM6 + copy

  • TM87 form + 1 one photo

  • Child Thai id card + copy

  • Child's mother Thai  id card + copy

  • Thai Birth certificate + copy

  • Kor Ror 11 for legitimization of parenthood obtained at Amphoe (District office) + copy

  • House registration (Ta Bien baan)   + copy

  • Bank guarantee letter in Thai.

  • Updated Bank book + Copy

  • Credit advice to show that money (400K) comes from abroad

  • Hand drawn map of house location

  • 4 pictures with me, my child and mother outside and inside the house.

TM30 was not requested.

Problem #1

The IO also asked for a letter from my child school. Luckily, I had the student id card from my child’s school and the invoice for this year tuition fees with me and it was accepted.

Problem #2

The IO requested an official  translation of the Birth certificate because she want to have the translation of the father name written in Thai in the Birth Certificate. My name written in English in the Kor Rr 11 was not enough.

We had to go to the Department of Consular Affairs (Building where passports are issued for Thai citizens) which is  2 Kms from CW Building B in order to have the birth Certificate translated in English and legalized by the Thai authorities ( 1900 Baths for urgent service).

It took 4 hours to get the document and we were back at immigration at  2.00  PM.

We got a new  queue ticket. Only 2 people before us.

I have to sign all the documents and my daughter some of them and everything took only 15 minutes.

I have to come back in 2 weeks to get my passport stamped with the 90 days non-Immigrant O visa.

Back at home I got a call from an immigration officer . They will visit us tomorrow afternoon...

Hope this helps.

Is this really required?

Not sure that it is officially required at least for this kind of visa and with the 400K option.

It is not required to apply for a non-o visa for being the parent of a Thai.

See: https://bangkokimmigration.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/07.pdf

Only the visa for retirement requires proof the money in the bank came from abroad.

From my experience of applying a Spouse O visa I didn't have to show where the 400k came from. I did the 3 month application early September and just today applied for the yearly visa. I will have to go back in a month assuming it'll be approved as I had correct paperwork. I forgot to ask the IO if I can now withdraw the funds from my bank. Will they want to check my bank book again upon collection? Can someone clue me in on this. thanks.

Was this application for the actual visa or the 1 year extension?  Are they allowing applications for these visas inside Thailand now?

Assuming you're asking me,.. yes they allow applications within the kingdom.

I always thought you could only apply for those visa's outside of Thailand, or is this a conversion?

The application as written in the requirements I posted can be done with a visa exempt or a tourist visa entry.

The tourist visa is a change a of visa status to a non immigrant visa and the visa exempt is a application for a non immigrant visa.

List of the possible visa applications are here. https://www.immigration.go.th/en/?page_id=2537

I entered  Thailand  in March with a Visa exempt then I applied for a 30 days extension of stay and finally I got in September a 60 days extension of stay  based on the parent of a Thai child.

I had to fill the Thai immigration form TM 87 to get a 90 days non-immigrant O visa.

For the previous 30 days extension and 60 days extension I had to fill a TM 7 form (the 2 forms are quite similar).

Just a remark : I did not sign all the documents before going to CW and it was a good idea since the IO used a special stamp on each document and you have to sign inside the stamp...

Sorry to jump on this thread. Can someone advise if the 400k can be withdrawn after the yearly Spouse O application is made. Do I have to show it again upon collection?

If in Bangkok the answer is yes. Other offices may not want to see proof when your return to get the one year extension stamp.
