Is arbitrage possible for RMF/SSF funds?

Featured Replies

I understand when we invest in RMF or SSF funds we need to keep them for at least 7 or 10 years, but is it possible to do arbitrage?
For example if I buy RMF-Fund-1 one year, is it possible to sell it and buy RMF-Fund-2 three to four years later? Thanks.

If you sell before the end of term date you will be hit with severe penalties.

These penalties will outweigh any gains from arbitrage.

Thanks. I asked because before I had a tax-free investment vehicle in Europe locked for at least 8 years, and I could not withdraw money, but could still buy/sell funds within the plan. Now that's clear that it's not possible with RMF/SSF without losing tax benefits.

Finally, arbitrage of RMF and SSF funds is indeed possible without penalties.

I could find it on KTAM SSF documents where they they it's possible to switch funds starting January 1st 2021.

I also went to a Krung Thai branch in Chiang Mai this morning, and they confirmed it's possible to switch funds for both SSF and RMF, and we don't have to pay extra tax. What cannot be done is sell funds before the end of the investment period, and get your money to your savings or another type of account.
