House Speaker continues to seek guidance from distinguished elders

BANGKOK (NNT) - Government aligned parties have urged protesters to reconsider their stance on not joining a reconciliation committee, suggesting an intermediary be used to facilitate discussions.

The Speaker of the House Chuan Leekpai has continued in his effort to collect views from distinguished individuals on past social solutions that could be applied to current circumstances, asking that detractors not write off the views of senior figures as they hold valuable experience and have good intentions for the nation.

The speaker assured the public that he continues to be resolute despite criticisms and will collect a variety of viewpoints. Declining yet to reveal who he has met with, Chuan clarified that he was not finalizing the establishment of a reconciliation body but is rather studying possible solutions. He said he must be thorough and separate matters to do with the future and issues that exist here in the present. Pressing issues are to be put to the King Prajadhipok’s Institute for consideration.

Bhumjai Thai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul gave his support to the speaker’s efforts and voiced appreciation of former premiers and house speakers giving their advice. He asked protesters join in the move to find a solution to the situation, noting the government has opened itself up to all opinions.

Chart Thai Pattana Party leader Nikorn Chamnong asked that past images of the reconciliation committee be cast off and instead for all to see the body as a safe space for discussions, suggesting an intermediary be incorporated to facilitate negotiations. He also asserted that all sides should take part, especially the protesters.

Phuea Thai Party Spokesperson Arunee Kasayanont meanwhile weighed in by saying that none of the reconciliation committee approaches put forth by Parliament has appeared to be neutral. She suggested three points for an acceptable committee - that it have clear points of discussion, that there be a timeframe for resolutions and that agendas with the possibility of agreement be identified.

Geriatrics asking other past their sell by date geriatrics for help.????

Why not ask younger people? Reason they wont do that is, they want to keep hanging on to power/ control till they die.

Ask the young, give Thailand a chance to move forward into the 21st century, not back to the 19th century.

Seeking guidance from the people who got you into this mess is folly.

Why would they ever accede to any changes which gave them their "distinguished" status.

Epic fail.

Comité, Panel, Sub Board, etc Yawn ????

And yet another example of how the elite control Thailand....the government must consult them and obey....just part of the never ending system of patronage in Thailand.

They gift, the government kowtow!

This whole thing needs fresh eyes, not the opinions of dinosaurs, that's what got Thailand into this mess.
