Thailand's Tourism and Sports minister Pipat Ratchakitprakan along with the public health ministry is pressing ahead with plans to run alternative state quarantine (ASQ) and alternative local state quarantine (ALSQ) at golf courses that have accommodation.

The plans for a pilot scheme involving golfers from  South Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan will be presented to the Covid-19 emergency response committee CCSA this Wednesday.

Pipat said the idea came from consular officials at the South Korean embassy who told Pipat that 1,000 South Korean youth players come to Thailand each year for three months solely to play golf and escape the winter months in their country.

Golf courses with accommodation are seen as ideal for quarantining what with the open spaces for playing the game enabling good social distancing, reported Daily News.

So far five courses have been proposed to join the pilot scheme.

One is the Rancho Charnvee Resort and Country Club in Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima.

Others are in Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Saraburi and Kanchanaburi.

The Thai authorities hope to expand the plan to 20-30 other courses later.

A total of 238 courses have accommodation comprising 5,000 rooms, said the Thai media.

So what happens to all the regular Thai golfers....are they now banned form their clubs?

Another super super spreader event. No way will all of these young virile studs go for one night in Thailand without yielding to the urge. OPPS sorry just remembered prostitution is illegal in Thailand.

Yep... money calls.

This could actually work.

But.

It needs all the staff; ground staff, bar/restaurant staff, caddies, etc. to be quarantined as well.  If they go home each night, that's the quarantine broken.  Can anyone see the Thai staff doing that?

This a joke ? They don’t have golf courses in any of these places that can be played all year round ?
Daddy daddy buy me a golf course in Thailand please I’m cold ! ????

It was explained to me that, to be successful in business in Korea, you need a good golf handicap as a lot of deals are done on the golf course, and playing badly loses face, and so status in negotiations.  It's long been the case that there are residential golf schools here where Korean kids play a round before school, then a day's academic education, then a golf lesson.  6 days a week, like it or not!

This seems to be a try at getting them going again.
