Hello Everyone:

 

     Here is my current situation.  I am in the U.S. and I hold a Non Immigrant "O" retirement Visa with multi-entry permit valid until April 18, 2021.  Would I be allowed to enter Thailand on this Visa? Or are these Visas currently no good for re-entry?  

 

     I assume of course I would have to meet the covid quarantine requirements and have to have negative tests before flying out.  And if the Visa is valid, would I need the "Covid Insurance" or have any other hoops to jump through?  I'd like to make it back for the winter and renew the Visa before it expires!

Looks to me like you actually have a 12 month extension for retirement and a multi re entry permit.

You can now apply for a certificate of entry and then enter the country now.

There is an error on the website in that it mentions the 40/400k medical insurance. That is not required unless you have to apply for a new non-o visa.

Has it been a change recently, I thought this applied only to O-A visa's based on retirement and O visa's based on a family connection such as married to a Thai or a Thai child? 

Yes very recent change.

I had thought USA was not an "approved" country due to high COVID cases.  I will "try" to get a response from the Consulate (Chicago).  So far, no response to my eMails.

The visa that requires a country to be low risk is STV.

Other visas do not have that requirement.

I also had difficulties this time renewing my non "O" visa. First time since I retired. Apparently I was a few thousand baht below the 800K required 3 months after obtaining the visa last year. Can someone let me me know if the rule had been relaxed due to the Covid problem?

Not correct. From embassy website.

"Currently, the following types of visas are NOT permitted to enter Thailand: Transit passengers (TS), Sports visa holders (S), Monks and other religious visa holders (R) and their spouses or children, Volunteers (O), and non-formal students visa holders (such as language schools, diving schools, boxing schools). Due to a high number of infection rate, the APEC card holders and the applicants who are currently in the USA and wish to obtain Special Tourist Visa (STV) do not fall under the categories that could enter Thailand at the moment, please check back regularly for any updates."

But some offices might be a little flexible.
