The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration on Friday reported 11 new cases in state quarantine.

The new patients included eight Thai returnees and three foreigners.

The Thai nationals were seven women: two, aged 34 and 16, from Saudi Arabia; two, aged 28 and 29, from Myanmar; one, aged 43, from Portugal; and two, aged 28 and 30, from Bahrain. A male Thai national aged 33 came from Myanmar.

The foreigners included a Swedish, aged 54, a US national, aged 23, and a South Korean, 34.

As of Friday, the number of confirmed cases in Thailand had risen to 4,180 (1,192 in state quarantine). Of these, 217 are in hospital, 3,903 have recovered and been discharged, while 60 have died.

According to Worldometer, as of Friday the number of confirmed cases worldwide since the outbreak had risen to 70.71 million, 49.13 million of whom have recovered and 1.58 million have succumbed to the infection.

Thailand ranks 151st globally, while the US has the most cases with 16.03 million, followed by India (9.79 million), Brazil (6.78 million), Russia (2.56 million) and France (2.33 million).

Huh? So not a vegetable, but perhaps a Swedish Au Pair?

So, in spite of the article on Thai airways earlier on today saying that "many Thai provinces" are now affected by the latest Covid outbreak, they'd have us believe that there were no new cases recorded outside of quarantine in the last 24 hours?

Pull the other one, it's got bells on it, lol.

(The article I refer to:

These essentially pointless daily stats would be more interesting if they also included a time-based total % of positive cases per carrier eg:

Airline A > Total Passengers Carried 12,345 > % Later Testing Positive in ASQ 12%

Airline B > Total Passengers Carried 12,345 > % Later Testing Positive in ASQ 0.5%

Etc.

While not what you're lookng for, the total figure testing positive on arrival or in quarantine is ~ 680, with about ~ 45,000 total returnees.

I'm starting to believe foreigners are catching covid on the flights as they're required to have a test prior to flying.

To quote a friend who flew Emirates from Dammam to catch a connecting flight from Dubai on Wednesday.

"The flight from Dammam was bad...no social distancing etc...full flight..TCN's. Queuing was bad.. stewards not in control.. people not wearing masks.. even after being told."

I really feel the writers of this constant re-iterating of Thailand being 151st on Worldometers just can't be bothered to read the others columns declaring Thailand 170th on testing per million and on a par with such  countries as  Uganda, Lesotho, zambia and Togo !

So 2% chance.  Roll the dice.

So please do an article on some of these foreigners who tested positive.

How is their planned trip going?   14 day  in jail turned to 10 days plus ? At hospital?  Lasting  effects? Did the prepaid accommodations they had to show refund this time ir give them credit?    Ask them if they would do it again?

Interesting point on the refund from especially ASQ. I would also like to see a response from an expat who had a positive test, after arrival at an ASQ, went to hospital and what the 100,000 insurance covered.

So the line "217 are in hospital" means there are 217 active symptomatic (or is it possibly also asymptomatic?) ongoing cases being treated in hospital in the country? That's interesting, and higher than I recently told a friend in the US.

Talk to The Nation, tell them that their stats are boring and they should change them to your format.

I'm sure they would listen.

It is no wonder that in western countries covid is surging, there is no proper quarantine. How many people would self quarantine for 14 days if nobody is watching?
