Popular Post Kan Win
Today marks the 16th year since this happened on Boxing Day 2004. A Tsunami hit Thailand. We will always remember that day, sipping on our brown beverages, taking khrap this khrap that as usual, then my mobile rings and I am told about Khao Lak and what happened there. 52 days later, I summed up enough courage to visit Khao Lak, after watching the events unfold on the Thai News Television and other networks from around the world. Our very good friend Ron also let me share his photos from Aceh - February 2006. Tsunami - Phang-nga - Khao Lak - Thailand 53 Days After Photo Gallery by Kan Win at pbase.com Rest in Peace all of those that perished around the world due to this Tsunami 16 years ago. Amen. LivinginKata
I am ashamed to say that I had forgotten about that terrible day given the current situation sucking up all the oxygen. I was here in Kata that morning. More like 09.06 as I remember. Obviously the damage in Kata and Karon was much less severe than Patong, Kamala, and northern beaches. Yes ... all perished Rest in Peace
Somtamnication
Yes, I forgot about it due to covid and other things. Ashamed, really. I still hear from some of the people that I met and helped and those are the only good memories about that time that I have left.
beechbum
Was definitely a very sad time, the greedy thieving bastards from Bangkok reached new lows.

Not to mention the greedy bastards who bought up all the beaches in Kao Lak and created eyesores for profit.

GinBoy2
This is one of those weird quirks of fate, We were going to spend Christmas in Phuket on the beach, tickets and hotel booked. Then at the last minute my Dad was taken into hospital and I flew back to the US. I've often wondered what would have happened had that not occurred and me, my wife and son had actually been on the beach that day. Our son was 4 years old at the time. The thought that his life could have been cut short, like so many others, is almost unimaginable Edited January 6, 2021 by GinBoy2
