toast1
Sometimes I leave my laptop in my car, and temperatures drop below freezing at night. It hasn't harmed it in the past, I have left it during very cold winter nights, but I'm wondering if this is OK. Is it generally OK to do this? Thanks
timendres
As long as you allow the machine to come back to room temperature before turning it on, I see no issues with the electronics. The real problem you should be concerned about is condensation. If you bring the freezing machine into a warm, humid room, it is likely that you will get water condensation, which is never a good thing.
Pib
Major changes in temperate also cause component/circuit board expansion and shrinking which can cause solder connections to break/loosen/have poor contact among other problems. I definitely would not be letting my laptop experience going from freezing to warm/hot on a frequent basis unless it was specifically built for such environmental change. https://www.hampshire.edu/it/laptops-and-temperature-extremes
toast1
OK Great Thanks for the info, I left my Dell laptop in my car in previous years, when there was freezing, and there were no problems at all, but I will try not to do this.
