dantilley
Hi, Is there such thing as a recycling plant anywhere in Bangkok? I've accumulated a huge pile of Bangkok Posts which I'm loathed to simply throw out with the regular trash. Thanks in advance.
leisurely
I can't believe that 15 people looked at this and no one answered. Don't worry about trying to find somewhere to do the recycling yourself (unless you are extremely short of money, paper gets around 5 baht a kilo). Recycling is done at street level, whoever gets to your rubbish first, gets the booty. If you know any maids where you live - or guards, they would probably be pleased to have the chance to earn 20 baht, if not put it out and the rubbish people will sort it for you. Always good to keep the security guards on your side...
Doza
Yes, its true that the garbage is separated into valuable recyclables - paper/cardboard, plastic, glass, metals etc. by the collectors so don't stress about that. What you really should be concerned about is non recyclables and possible toxic materials that the collectors often dont separate and can end up in landfills. These include lightbulbs, batteries, aerosols, etc. If you contact the BMA, they will actually come and collect toxic waste or let you know where you can drop it off.
