Transferring Money "up-country", Bank To Bank

Recommended Posts

We have a limited company in Phuket with a business savings account in Patong at Kasikorn Bank.

We had difficulty getting payment from a company in Bangkok. They said they cannot transfer money to us either by electronic bank transfer or by cheque because we are not in Bangkok, even if the accounts are with the same Bank. They advised us to visit to collect cash or to open an account in Bangkok, both of which would be highly inconvenient. Finally they paid us using an ATM in Bangkok.

Is this really a problem like they say it is? I find it very hard to believe. How do other "up-country" businesses get paid by Bangkok companies?

thanks

The problem is the "transfer fee". Say, for example, you have an account with Bkk Bank in Phuket & you want to transfer to your Bkk Bank account in Bangkok, you will be liable for a transfer fee of 0.1% of the transfer total plus 30B. So if you have to transfer 570,000B, the fee will be 570B + 30B = 600B. :o

Very easy to transfer b/w branches or to other banks from any bank around the country.

Just looks like your customer didn't want to cough up a transfer fee or have any electronic record of the transaction. (maybe tax avoidance reasons) :D

Cheers,

Soundman.

The interbank transfer is known as Bahtnet and it is a service of the BOT. As Soundman has said, you can transfer THB from any bank in Thailand to any bank in Thailand with same day value (as long as the bank's cut off time is met). All commercial banks in Thailand are part of the Central Bank's system.

Thaitanic, tell the company to transfer the funds using Bahtnet and then see what their excuse is. It might be interesting.
