Popular Post snoop1130
Bangkok buses get exhaust emission tests BANGKOK (NNT) - Officials have tested public buses in Bangkok for the amount of pollution emitted from the engine’s exhaust, in a continual measure to address the air pollution the city is facing. The Office of the Prime Minister’s Permanent Secretary Theerapat Prayurasiddhi led a team of officials to carry out exhaust gas emission testing of public buses using diesel engines in Bangkok. The test today was performed at the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority’s (BMTA) Bang Khen depot, where most of the buses in service were found to emit a standard quality of exhaust gas, and are properly maintained according to the maintenance schedule. Mr. Theerapat said, since October last year, officials have exhaust gas tested 118,710 vehicles, of which 1,084 were found to be emitting heavily polluted exhaust gas and were banned from operating. The authorities will continue to target the operations of trucks and public vehicles to help reduce air pollution, especially PM 2.5 fine particles, while encouraging motorists to ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-02-19 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

I guess that means 1,084 drivers didn’t have any money with them. I drive a lot in Bangkok and I’d say at least 50% of the buses leave a cloud behind them.

Popular Post richard_smith237
Looking at the photo - they need to make sure the engine is running before they test !!! Thats the first bus I’ve seen without visible fumes !!! Who needs a detector - a quick glance will do the trick ! 3

Popular Post Golden Triangle
I have never read such utter carp in years, do people really believe this absolute garbage ? Please thaivisa credit us with some intelligence, last time I went through Bangkok it was a diesel sh!t fest. About time they adopted London's congestion charge and low emissions zone, that is the only way to tackle this problem, oh and get some of those 30 year old buses off the road, they passed inspection, my backside. 3

There is no mention of the specialised analyser equipment needed to quantify the above in relation to " standard quality of exhaust gas " .. The two main pollutants from a Diesel engine exhaust are compressed unburned or incompletely burned fuel and oil particulates down to PM 2.5 and Nitrogen Oxides .. The smoke tester in the pic' merely measures the density of the particles being emitted and no more .. it does not analyze the output of the exhaust in the same way as analyser's for petrol engines function which test for specific elements ( CO , HC , CO2 ) .. observer90210
Make them all go electric or on hydrogen GPL. Issue solved. Health and pure air does go with a price.

After a brief respite during the Chinese new year they are back to burning the rice fields. Toxic levels of 2.5 PM air pollution in Hua Hin this morning again. ???? newnative
Bus looks like its 50 years old. They all need to be scrapped and replaced with nice, air-conditioned, low-polluting models.

michael888
Jeezuz...will they ever admit its from agri burning of sugar cane, rice fields? <deleted> <deleted> just want to kill everyone. Would think BREATHING might be a priority. Testing buses does absolutley nothing to stop the problem. Dimwits.

Agri burning of sugar cane and rice. Money doesnt want to be parted with. Perhaps when no tourists come from November through April (the air is bad for HALF the year) because of the toxic air they will remedy the problem. Doubt it though.

You're not going to get anybody out of their cars with those old crapped-out bus horrors. It's not as if the majority own cars you're going to get them out of. Those crapped out bus horrors are often standing room only, in spite of their condition. Because a lot of BKK'ers can't even afford the MRT and BTS without spending a significant portion of their wages just to get back and forth. I'd be all for subsidizing nice buses so everyone can afford them- reducing the car traffic. But Thais don't seem to want to pay the taxes required. And newer buses with air conditioning are going to have to charge more if they're not subsidized.
oldcarguy
I always wondered if the buses were worn out or never tuned up ? It always looks like they have one or 2 injectors stuck open and just loading up on extra fuel , that has to cost a lot of money in fuel costs , Many of these buses were the old Mercedes powered buses that got a Japanese engine transplant years ago, But I still like taking them , you get to see the "real" city thru the smoke .....55555 only Hisos take the BTS ....
