PEC reminds people to return home to vote in municipal elections

PHUKET:-- The Phuket office of the Election Commission of Thailand (PEC) has issued a notice “reminding” Phuket non-natives to go back to their hometowns to vote in the upcoming for municipal elections to be held nationwide on March 28 – as there will be no advance or distance voting held.

Those unable to vote must submit a form to their home District Office explaining their reason for being unable to vote. The form must be submitted within seven days before the election day (Mar 21-27) or within seven days after the election (Mar 29-Apr 4), the PEC explained.

In accordance with election law, explained the PEC, those who do not submit a written explanation for not voting will be for two years not to entitled to:

What a  load of $hite! How  about it being a democratic  right to not vote for starters

Didnt vote  because your'e  all corrupt <deleted>, would that be a valid reason? 

They do love their endless  paperwork, Thailand land of worlds  biggest paperchase in triplicate.

Under the Covid regime it would have been smart to have postal voting for 2 weeks, one week before.

The travel on the roads two weeks later for Songkran is a sure fire way to spread the virus

Perhaps, during this pandemic, a little thought would have gone a long way. Asking 'non-natives ' to travel 'home' to vote, seems a little shortsighted.  There are other ways to vote without travelling. Postal voting, online voting. All those methods so beloved by a certain person who is no longer in a position of power. Worries of election fraud have yet to be confirmed. A bit of, how about: I live here now, I'll register to vote here.  Joined up thinking, boys...

On the other hand, nobody votes and no body explains why? Or, nobody votes and they all explain why.

number one would invalidate the election and everyone would not be able to vote for 2 years...

number 2 would invalidate the election and inundate the functionaries with excuses of Why no one voted.
