Disgraced tycoon enters monkhood, MWA condemns his actions

Former business tycoon Duong Chhay entered the monkhood on Sunday after his “Okhna” title was revoked while still facing assault charges.

 

Chhay posted yesterday on his Facebook page sharing a series of photos of the monkhood ceremony saying: “I decided to enter the monkhood in order to express gratitude toward my parents, washing all sins and karma away. Please forgive me [for all my wrongdoings].”

 

On March 15, Chhay’s ex-wife, Deth Malina, released video clips on Facebook of an act of violence toward her by Chhay, which resulted in outrage from the public as well as the Prime Minister. The former tycoon’s “Oknha” title was stripped on March 18. Duong Chhay was previously convicted of violence and assault twice. Once in 2013 and again in 2015.
