May 17, 200719 yr Finance minister says no to special business tax cut BANGKOK: -- Thailand's Finance Minister Chalongphob Sussangkarn on Wednesday reiterated the ministry would not opt to reduce a special business tax to help property developers. Speaking after a meeting with a team of advisors to the finance minister, he said there remained no conclusion for details about the economic stimulus measure. However, Dr. Chalonhphob said the ministry would not cut the special business tax to the property developers’ rescue because it wanted to give an assistance to potential homebuyers only. Narongchai Akaraseranee, advisor to the finance minister, said the meeting was wrapped up with a clear direction for the economic stimulus approach. In particular, more money would be injected to help increase people’s purchasing power in buying their homes and to support the implementation of mega projects. Kan Prachuabmoh, president of the Government Housing Bank, said the economic stimulus package, especially that of property development, was raised for discussion at the meeting. However, there was no final conclusion for the proposed economic stimulus measure. It is expected all details would be concluded next week. They would be submitted to the cabinet for consideration late this month. --TNA 2007-05-17
