City Hall Barred from Building Chao Phraya Promenades

BANGKOK, March 31 (TNA) - The Supreme Administrative Court prohibits the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration from constructing walkways on both banks of the Chao Phraya River.

 

The court upheld a ruling by the Administrative Court concerning the riverside promenade project that eyed a 2.99-kilometer-long eastern bank section from the Rama VII Bridge to the Royal Irrigation Department in Samsen area and a 3.20km western bank section from the Rama VII Bridge. to the Bang Phlad Canal.

 

Earlier, the Marine Department allowed the BMA to build the elevated walkways designed for sightseeing, relaxation, exercise and cycling.

why stop here? from the article:

 

"The Supreme Administrative Court stated that the project could develop issues of legitimacy and its implementation might have adverse impacts on a city planning network for society and its partners."

Why?! Bangkok isn’t exactly known for having great walkways for pedestrians or bicycle paths! This project would’ve been very welcome!
