Hi.

Does anyone know a retailer in Bangkok selling Ammonium Chloride? I want to use the chemical for cleaning teak furniture. I find it hard to find retailers in Bangkok selling chemicals in their pure form. You may find mixtures of chemical products of any kind sold in the supermarkets intented for cleaning sold under a fancy name. Very ofte the labels on the bottles do not indicate the composition of the contents, but only the purpose og the use. The chemistries and the painting shops do not sell this stuff.

There are a couple of shops in china town, near Klong Thom that probably has what you want. There is also a school equipment shop next to the ekamai bus station that has some chemicals although I don't know if they have NH4Cl

I use Lemon Pledge , it smells nice also as well as cleans my Teak.

Ammonium Chloride is also a fertilizer. They come in pearly white pellets.

No, that would be ammonium nitrate, NH4 NO3 , fertilizer, when mixed with fuel oil.

The nitrates are very strong oxidizers of hydrocarbons. Think TNT , dynamite. tri nitro touluene, a hydrocarbon ring with 3 nitrate groups.

Nope, chlorides are not usually flammable, Ammonium Chlorate and Ammonium Nitrate on the other hand.

On second thought you could make your own by mixing dilute ammonia and very dilute hydrochloric acid.

Aqueous ammonia is NH3 + H2O = NH4+OH that is ammonium hydroxide, now mixed with hydrochloric acid, HCL, you would get:

NH4 OH + HCL = NH4 CL + H2O, ammonium chloride and water.

If you do this wear eye protection and rubber gloves with a fan blowing. Dilute all chemicals first
