Police in Banteay Meanchey province’s Malai district in collaboration with provincial border military forces yesterday arrested two men for attempting to illegally smuggle 25 people across the border into Thailand to work. Major Nuon Sothy, Malai district police deputy chief, told Khmer Times yesterday that they were arrested at about 2am on Monday along the Cambodian-Thai border, in Boeng Beng commune.

Maj Sothy said the two suspects were arrested while they were walking and guiding 25 people along the Cambodian border, attempting to send them into Thailand through an illegal checkpoint in Malai district.

He said that after their arrests, police rescued 25 people including men and women from them. He identified the two suspects as Doeb Nun, 52; and Mai Sahun, both living in Banteay Meanchey province’s Boeng Beng commune.
