The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has extended closures of several venues including schools until May 31st, with an exception of eateries which can reopen today (Monday), according to a BMA announcement issued yesterday.

Previous BMA announcements, issued on April 25th and 30th, ordering the closure of all entertainment venues, movie theatres, fitness clubs, children’s playgrounds, educational institutes, all competition grounds, boxing rings, horse, race courses and public swimming pools are due to expire today. The new announcement has extended the closures for two more weeks.

Dine-in service in eateries are permissible up to 9pm, with the number of diners limited to one per table which normally seats four people, but no alcohol may be served. Take-home and delivery services can continue until 11pm.

YAY!!! Finally! Should have never closed restaurants to dine-in. Should have never closed pools. Condo pool opened today and I was diving in head first.

Silly, nonsensical rules finally reversed. At last some liberty and a bit of sanity.

Now when is alcohol gonna be served in restaurants again? And how about bars opening?!? Soon hopefully.

Does the announcement say the closure is extended for another 2 weeks?

No, not for private pools it seems as our condo pool is open now. Unless they got it wrong here. ???? Hope not.

Bit misleading headline. Restrictions of 1 per table, doesn't equal reopening!!!!

While get your point and sorta-kinda agree, it does equal partial reopening...and that can be the difference between surviving or closing forever. Especially for niche or specialty eateries like "plant based". A friend of mine is the proprietor of an excellent plant-based restaurant in Bangers. She was never full, but only needs to be partially full to survive. This will be a welcomed lifeline until full opening happens hopefully next month. Another shutdown like this will be the end of many...and not just the niche venues.

Another restaurateur acquaintance (Indian) in Jomtien is ecstatic with this announcement. Dine-in also generates bigger gratuities. I'll be joining him tonight for dine-in and her early next month with some friends.

It's a start and a win for restaurant owners.
