Report Court Prepares for Final Hearing in Thaksin Case on 30th July
Picture courtesy of Daily News The Supreme Court is poised to conduct the final hearing in the ongoing legal proceedings against former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on 30th July. This highly watched case pertains to the enforcement of penalties for political figures, with the outcome anticipated by many. Over the course of six prior sessions, 30 witnesses have been called to provide their testimony. These sessions have been crucial in examining various aspects of the case, including procedural and health-related issues surrounding Thaksin's treatment and detention. The upcoming session will spotlight former Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam, the sole witness for this final stage. His testimony is expected to play a pivotal role in wrapping up the series of hearings. Earlier hearings have showcased a diverse group of witnesses. On 13th June, officials from Bangkok's special prison testified about the transfer processes for inmates requiring medical attention outside the facility. This was followed by a session on 4th July, featuring medical personnel from both within and outside the prison system, who provided insights into Thaksin’s healthcare arrangements. The court continued its enquiries on 8th July, focusing on corrections officers and their roles in Thaksin's transfer to a police hospital, reported Daily News. Subsequent sessions included testimony from corrections department executives and various medical specialists who further elaborated on the circumstances of Thaksin's detention and healthcare. Strict guidelines have enforced the sessions, despite their openness to interested parties and the media. Attendees are restricted to listening only, without the ability to document or publicise witness testimonies to protect personal data and maintain the integrity of the legal process. As the final hearing approaches, the nation awaits the court's decision, which will establish the timeline for any forthcoming judgements concerning Thaksin’s legal standing. The determinations of the court will signal the next chapter in this high-profile case. Adapted by ASEAN Now from [source] 2025-07-30 -

Crime Authorities Raid Pattaya Club: Underage Patrons, Illegal Migrants & Drug Use Uncovered
Picture courtesy of Daily News. A late-night raid by Bang Lamung district officials exposed a host club in South Pattaya operating illegally, with underage customers, undocumented migrant workers, and patrons testing positive for drugs. Acting on complaints from the public, Bang Lamung District Chief Mr. Patcharapach Sritanyanon ordered Mr. Tharit Chancharoon, the district’s Chief of Security Affairs, to lead an enforcement team to inspect the venue on Soi Chaloem Phrakiat 35. The raid took place at approximately 03:05 on 29 July. Officers entered the premises to find more than 30 people partying inside. The authorities immediately ordered the music to be stopped and lights turned on so that a full inspection could be conducted. Initial checks revealed five patrons under the age of 20, the youngest just 17 years old. Additionally, five Laotian nationals were found working as host staff, entertaining customers without valid work permits. A urine drug screening was then carried out, with nine individuals, eight men and one woman, testing positive for illegal substances. The venue also failed to present any documentation proving it had licences to operate as an entertainment venue or to sell alcohol. Authorities have taken multiple actions: • The nine individuals who tested positive for drugs will be sent for rehabilitation. • The five underage patrons will be questioned as witnesses. • The undocumented migrant workers will face legal proceedings under immigration and labour laws. • The club owner faces several criminal charges, including permitting entry to minors, employing illegal workers and operating without licences. District officials announced that a formal request would be submitted to the Chonburi Governor to shut the venue down for five years to prevent further offences and set an example for other entertainment venues in the region.
