A freind from Philippines has asked how much Foreign Currency he will need to show just for himself at Bangkok Airport, when entering on a Visa Exemption - and how many days he will be given.

I am on Retirement Visa and have no knowledge of Visa Exemption procedures.

Any further advice would be welcome

Dunno if it applies to Philippinos (or is it Filipinos?) or Cambodians or whatever, but I remember a sign in Cambodia Poi Pet border asking visa exempt people to show 20,000 Baht and not only 10,000.

I also saw Philippino sounding people (my ex was philippino) preparing 20,000 in show money, and not only 10,000.

However, I don't know if they eventually really had to show it. According to my ex who is Philipino, they are also more likely to check more "poor" looking (more dark-skinned) phillipinos; but i dunno if that's really true.

The sign did not indicate "for family" or "for individual".

Due to the inconsistency of policy implementation, I suggest that your friend should bring 20,000 just in case.

By the way, I do know that 10,000 is the requirement for individual for visa on arrival (or 20,000 for family), which is different from the visa exempt stamp.

The requirement is 10k individual / 20k family for visa on arrival or visa exempt entry.

For transit/tourist/non immigrant it is 20k individual / 40k family.

Both above are on MFA website as of today. Believe the sign was providing the visa entry requirement or was for family if visa exempt.
