Popular Post Trujillo
You can pack in a MacDonald's and eat all the sodium burgers you want; get a foot massage; mingle in the local night market (where people are cheek to jowl); and shop anywhere you like... But exercising? Oh, no! DANGER! DANGER! Forget this: 78% of COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the US overweight or obese, CDC finds "Among 71,491 U.S. adults who were hospitalized with COVID-19, 27.8 percent were overweight and 50.2 were obese, according to the CDC's latest Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report published March 8. The analysis included 148,494 patients who received a COVID-19 diagnosis at emergency departments or inpatient visits between April 1 and Dec. 31 across 238 hospitals. Of those, 71,491 were hospitalized. Those who were overweight or obese were more likely to require invasive mechanical ventilation, findings showed. Obesity was also linked to increased risk for hospitalization and death, especially among those under age 65. As BMI rose, so did the risk, the CDC found." Or perhaps it is that keeping all exercise facilities closed that is keeping the positive test numbers low, eh? Seriously, though....what gives? 2 1
Pilotman
Our gyms in Chon Buri Province are also still closed. The lady that runs our gym says that it will be at least another month before they get the all clear to open. Goodness only knows why this is so, it makes no sense, as around here the restaurants , fresh food markets, supermarkets and coffee shops are all operating normally. 1
Phillip9
Maybe they have read some of the CDC reports on covid in gyms, so they realize gyms are quite high risk. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7009e2.htm Edited June 1, 2021 by Phillip9 1
Popular Post ramrod711
I don't agree with gyms being closed in general, because not all gyms are the same. The gym I go to (or went to) is mostly older guys like myself. Some relatively light weightlifting, situps and a little cardio on a treadmill, then off to the pool. The last day I swam was at the Lotus hotel pool, a 1,000 sq meter pool that I was all alone in. The next day it was closed. The whole thing could be better managed by limiting the number of people allowed at any time rather than shutting it all down.
Popular Post brewsterbudgen
Who knows. People can pack together on public transport, in shops and malls, workplaces and restaurants are open - but somehow gyms, pools, parks and schools are more dangerous.
cardinalblue
The inability to manage case by case scenarios...fall victim by laziness through stereotyping that gyms are venue spreaders... put number restrictions by Square footage as they are much safer than what they have out there now with food courts shopping malls and covered fresh food markets crowded with people with zero controls in place Edited June 2, 2021 by cardinalblue
Trujillo
The CDC link talks about some cases surrounding a facility in the US, but there is no evidence given that the infection was actually acquired there, only that they were at the same place during various stages (apparently) of infection (or not being infected). My fitness center closed for 2 full weeks after one person tested positive who had been in the facility -- no one said this person was infected there and there were no subsequent positives associated with the place. Dazinoz
I remember last year after the lockdown and as they were easing restrictions, I think it was Anuitin but I could be wrong, said that live bands were allowed but needed to wear masks and music had to be calming (cant remember exact word) as normal music could cause people to have secretions and spread the virus. If you didn't see these things written you would just not believe anyone could say such things.

Most people suffer no ill effects, otherwise 'deaths per 100 thousand would be very high.

NoshowJones
Chiang Mai gyms/fitness centers still closed --why? Yes there are all closed and there are big queues at the immigration office. This country sure gets it's priorities right, doesn't it?

Thats what they said, I remember it well. More amusing was the type of music to be played so that it would not cause people to have "secretions".
