BANGKOK (AFP) - Sakorn Yangkhiawsod, one of Thailand's last great puppeteers and a world-renowned guardian of the traditional art form, has died peacefully aged 85, doctors said Tuesday.

The founder of the Joe Louis Puppet Theatre, the only troupe of theatrical puppeteers still performing daily in Thailand, Sakorn died from septicemia and acute renal failure at a private Bangkok hospital on Monday evening.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Thai performing arts, but I really enjoy the Joe Louis performances. Thailand's lucky that this guy fought to keep them going.

Yeah, this guy was pretty cool; there are quite a few young puppeteers 'round the place as well doing street performance and the like; there was actually a hoon town street festival a couple of years back for puppetry featuring both Thai and foreign puppeteers.

Let's hope it keeps going :-) in Khun 'Joe Louis' absence.

:o

He was a legendary boxer, but I never heard about his puppetry skills...

I think the Thai Joe Louis got his nickname for a passing resemblance to the 'Brown Bomber'.

Would not want to have been in the same ring as him.

The boxer, not the puppeteer :-)
