The building I'm staying in did make a huge difference. When I first arrived I stayed in a place called Rimhad in Jomtein. All I needed is a small room, but it was a mistake because I did not care for the people around there. Even then I was avoiding most other residents, but they could not be avoided altogether and one can't sit in their room all day. Kind of a lower income, scrungy clientele that I did not have much in common with (or at least did not want to perceive myself as having anything in common). I moved to a much better building and the residents are Ok, but still not people I would consider homies, but they are somewhat cultured and more educated. The buildings seem to attract a particular type of resident that aligns with the vibe with the setting which is good. That takeaway for anyone moving in is that the building matters. Even if you are happy in a cheap small room you can't get away from the people, so it won't be ideal. It's better to get a place that suits you better. On a wider scale, it's kind of the same thing with my move. I can get an equivalent living space here for cheaper, but it's never going to be the same as back home because the general environment and people will never be the same. Even with the gated entry and gardens, or on a really high floor, you can't escape the surroundings you may not like.
