Buying a new phone from Tukcom Pattaya

I have seen quite a few objections to buying a new phone from Tukcom Pattaya, though I don't really see the reasoning.

 

When buying second hand, yes you don't know what you buy, but when buying brandnew, you of course see what you get when it's unpacked.

 

I believe there are knockoff phones, but I also believe they are easily spotted, and will most likely be highend phones, instead of mid range ones.

 

As I'm in the market for a new phone, I like to hear your experiences and opinions about Tukcom

I would never buy a phone from one of those small stalls unless it's a cheap sub 2000 baht one.

 

If I want a Samsung phone, I will go to a Samsung phone shop and get one there, Terminal 21 have a Samsung shop.

 

If you do that, you will not get a cheap knock-off and you know that the warranty is valid.

Yes I know, and you will also pay the highest price.

 

Do you have any experience or knowledge that all phones sold at those small stalls are knock-offs?

 

Same can be said about Lazada, because they are cheaper as the official stores, they must be knock-offs, not?

Your opinion is respected, but do you have any valid reasons, and then I don't mean rumors but evidence or knowledge, why buying new phones from Tukcom stalls is a bad idea?

 

Prices on Lazada and Tukcom are similar, the advantage I give to Tukcom is that if you have a problem you can go back to the shop, where on Lazada you are dealing with someone online, and after 7 days Lazada does not get involved any more.

They have some more official brand shops on Lazada. They also have some in Tukcom. I would feel comfortable with either. I'm not comfortable with the more fly by night stalls. There are some smaller stores on Lazada that you can vet by the reviews and reputation stats. Nothing like that available for Tuk Com stalls.

Thanks that explains that your opinion is not based on rumors or prejudices.

 

If you live here long time, and visit Tukcom every now and then, you of course know which are the established stalls, so that are my reputation stats.

 

I know quite a few stalls that are there for many years, and if I'm looking for anything, that are the places I consult, and the ones calling out to you, I don't even give a glance.

 

I was there just yesterday, and the floor is half depleted, but most of those that I know for years, are still there.

 

As for the positive reviews on Lazada, I started a thread about that a while ago, about how credible they aren't.

Ultimately it's about what works for you.

I've had great experiences with Lazada.

I generally view the phones in stores and then buy on Lazada.

Why not just look up specs online? That's what I do.

That is also what I tend to do, but in this case I'm in the market for a new phone, while my current phone is still fine, but missing a certain function.

 

I have no use for 2 phones, and the Tukcom seller give me something back for my used phone, while that is not offered on Lazada.

 

The phones I'm interested had a similar price as on Lazada.

Because the function I need is NFC, Near Field Communication, and for some of the phone it is listed as available in certain regions.

 

Nowhere is listed which regions that are, and even Xiaomi global can't answer the question, as I had an email conversation with them. So the only way to know for sure is boot up the phone and check in the settings

Regional means the function is available on phones SOLD in certain regions, and not in others.

 

I'm sure you are aware that many phones have different spec, depending on the region where they are sold.

I have never bought a phone at Tukcom before, but I'm aware of them shops that are there  for at least 8 years.

 

Big C will not allow me to trade in my old phone, so it must already be 1500 baht cheaper than Tukcom, which I highly doubt

I agree with some previous posts. I would never buy an expensive phone from Tukcom. You take a risk that it might be a copy (from the smaller stalls) and if not you will pay full price for it. I am sure checking on Lazada would give you a 20-30% saving.

only one reason for not displaying a price and that's so they can rip you off as much as possible and then you gotta fight them on it.

I doubt I can buy one that is out of stock ????, but that is one of the phones I had in mind, and is available at 300 Baht less than your link on Lazada, and 500 baht less at Tukcom.

 

On top of that, at Tukcom I get 1500 Baht trade in on my current phone, which otherwise would only be in a drawer collecting dust.

 

But which phone to choose not the topic of this thread, which is if someone has first-hand knowledge that brand-new phones at Tuckcom are without doubt knock-offs

I posted that particular link because it's a flagship store so you can depend on their descriptions at least.

 

It's Tukcom. If you get the same 15 month warranty or more; then there is no issue. In fact I have a two year warranty with my Redmi from Banana IT. 

 

Another thing you need to watch is from whence the phone comes. If it's a grey import you might have difficulties. 

No one is going to give you any guarantees about Tukcom; especially when they have no idea of the vendor you have in mind. You pays yer money, yer takes yer choice.

If you buy at places like Tukcom look that the box is sealed and then unpack the phone/tablet there and check it by switching it on. If you buy a brand like Samsung the better shops often register it there already in the Samsung system and you will for sure have the full Samsung warranty - but mostly only for Thailand and not international. If they don't register it there a correct bill will be good enough too.

 

On the bill look that the serial number and IMEI is written down and compare it with the one in the phone and on the box. If you are asking and looking for a phone/tablet fake then everything is up to you and them. At such locations like Tukcom you can bargain. For brands at least a little bit - they often have price restrictions set by Samsung for instance. If the price is too good... 

 

At places like Tukcom it is often like this that you have many small shops but many (not all) work for the same big seller. 

 

One last hint. I always take pictures oft the shop, the seller and the receipt there. It is easier to find the shop and the seller afterwards.

I stated already that I never bought a phone from Tukcom, but I know which stalls are long standing, and I don't give those in the middle of the floor any consideration

Ask them if the warranty is with them or with Xiaomi. If with them, then definitely a grey import. Check details before the box is opened, by perhaps using Google on your phone, in case there is a lesser Global version. Of course if the box isn't completely sealed with a safety seal, reject it. Don't let them quickly open the box before you can inspect the seal. Scrutinise it and Google the exact model numbers on the seal.

As I stated earlier, I also got a two year warranty with Banana IT( 1st year with Xiaomi; 2nd with ComSeven) and a six month screen warranty.
