Firearm Demonstration from Police at Gold Shop

Up until now many gold shops in Thailand have been robbed and in some cases vendors have been killed.

Now, some gold shop owners have asked the police to train them in the use of firearms to protect themselves during a robbery. At the moment many gold shops have a warning sticker reading ‘Please, take off your helmet, sunglasses and jacket before coming in’ posted clearly on the glass door, but that is not enough.

There are positive ways of preventing robberies and catching thieves when they strike. Police requested local gold shops to tighten security and limit their trading hours to help police officers patrol the shops more frequently. However, many vendors complained about the slow response time of the police.

A team of over 30 police officers headed by Banglamung Police Chief; Police Colonel Nopphadon Sornsumran went to the Yawarat Naklua gold shop located on Pattaya-Naklua Road in the afternoon of 23rd May to give a demonstration of what the progress would be like when thieves strike gold shops.

In effect, what the vendors should do to avoid danger, how to recognize suspect thieves, and what the police would do when called to the scene to arrest the thieves.

A robbery enactment was played by two men pretending to be thieves robbing the gold shop. They even fled on a motorbike and police units were informed and quickly set up checkpoints with police volunteers and police working together for the capture.

This was indeed one good project from the Banglamung Police.
