NACC forms five panels to probe controversial ‘fancy’ lamp post project in Samut Prakan

Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has agreed to establish five panels to investigate the installation and maintenance of decorative lamp posts, in Racha Thewa sub-district, in Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province since 2013, by the Racha Thewa Tambon Administration Organization (TAO).

According to NACC Deputy Secretary-General Niwatchai Kasemmongkol, the anti-graft watchdog has discovered the TAO’s budgetary spending, for fiscal years 2013, 2014 and 2018 through 2021, for the installation and maintenance of the lamp posts, was not in line with the Interior Ministry’s regulations pertaining to budgeting of local administration organizations.

It was also discovered, by the NACC, that the procurement process has favoured some companies and that some of the lamp posts are not up to the required standard.

Unless I'm mistaken that sounds a little 'itty bit like co-rruption .. but I could be wrong ..

Be honest I think the photo sums up governmental corruption in Thailand to a tee. Only someone corrupt would fancy-up lights on a dirt track.

As for 5 committees investigating each year separately for 180 days, you just know they will have to appoint an overseeing committee of the 5 committee results in 181 days time.

You really have to ask the question....."is just five panels sufficient?"

I like the subtle introduction of 'panel' in place of 'committee'. Or, perhaps, in Thai bureaucracy a 'panel' is a sub-division of 'committee'?

Not really

When you consider that each Panel has to watch the activities of every other Panel for any mis reporting of the facts Etc.

A Committee now needs to be established to oversee all the Panels to ensure everything is transparent and above board.

takes 5 to hold the pole up straight, whilst another climbs it...

I just wonder if Thailand enjoys making itself a laughing stock around the world. People are out of work and short of food and there is enough money to set up five panels?????????

But well above market price no-doubt.

Maybe it's just me but it seems also very corrupt to need FIVE (count 'em!) panels to investigate this!

For sure otherwise why would 5 committees be taking up the investigation. Enough to go around
