Seized lumber to be used for C-19 victims’ coffins

Featured Replies

Prime Minister Hun Sen said recently that timber seized during illegal logging raids should be used to prepare coffins for Covid-19 victims so that they are put to rest with dignity. National Committee for Forest Crime Prevention spokesman Brigadier General Eng Hy told Khmer Times on Sunday that 4,000 cubic metres of timber are earmarked for the task. Boxes will also be made for the fragments of bones given to families after the cremation.

“I just counted all the timber that was seized from crimes. We have no experience about coffins so we do not know how many coffins it can make for the victims of Covid-19,” said Brig Gen Hy.

Head of National Committee for Forest Crime Prevention General Sao Sokha told Khmer Times last week that he is carrying out the orders of the Prime Minister. “It is not luxury wood that we chose for the coffins. We chose only simple wood because luxury wood will be auctioned for the national budget,” Gen Sokha said.
