biwog
So a friend and me desperately need a german keyboard laptop. I've read several time that the import is around $200 but I can't find any proof to convince him to order. One idea was to get the shop directly to send it to Thailand another one was to order two devices to my parents and have them send them over? What should I do? And where can I find the right information on import for laptops to convince my friend to order directly?
Popular Post nkg
If you need them desperately, why not just buy a German-language USB keyboard as a workaround? Plug it into your laptop, you're good to go. Lazada Thailand seem to have some for sale. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/2021-new-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-88-key-german-german-keyboard-with-rgb-led-backlight-for-use-with-gaming-and-office-i2437935603-s8445939276.html Edited July 21, 2021 by nkg
nkg
Also, I've had a second-hand laptop posted to me in Thailand from the UK by normal post. It got here in about 10 days. Obviously you risk it not arriving if you do this.
Crossy
Laptops should be zero rated for duty so just 7% VAT on the CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) value. Tool here https://www.simplyduty.com/import-calculator/
Crossy
Why not just load the German keyboard layout and put stickers on the keys that change if you can't touch-type? If there are keys missing you can use the ALT-numeric code to get them https://tools.oratory.com/altcodes.html
Kwasaki
If I want to type Thai I put the keyboard on screen Copy and paste, you can download most any common languages.

Have had a couple of laptops sent to me from UK in the last couple of years and only had VAT charged, no duty.
biwog
Thanks for all the answers. Some answers to the counter questions: stickers aren't really my thing especially on a fancy laptop keyboard. and having an extra keyboard is great but depending on it makes the devices more complicated and less portable.
