The latest two-month extension is to continue nationwide efforts to contain the surge in local COVID-19 transmission.

Bangkok, 24 July, 2021 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide the latest update that the Thai Cabinet agreed to extend the Emergency Decree nationwide for two more months until 30 September, 2021.

Published in the Royal Thai Government Gazette on 23 July, 2021, Thai Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha signed the announcement on the thirteenth consecutive extension of the state of emergency for two more months after it expires at the end of this month (31 July, 2021).

The two-month extension takes effect from 1 August – 30 September, 2021.

The announcement cited that despite unprecedented efforts on public health services, mass vaccination programme, and restrictions to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, the recent spread of Delta COVID-19 variant infections in various clusters in Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, as well as other provinces justifies the need to extend the state of emergency.

This will allow the authorities to step up efforts on disease surveillance and investigation, as well as to curb local transmissions for the health and safety of everyone in the country.

This time, there really is an emergency.

what does this actually mean? easier for tourists to stay longer?

Is there any chance of getting that power back and letting the people decide.

13? Child's play.

They've extended the emergency decree/martial law in the four restive southern provinces something like thirty-three times, consecutively since 2004.

Slippery slopes.

No surprise as they are on the backfoot and need all the unconstitutional decrees they have to suppress comments on their appalling lack of competence, integrity, honour and decency.

Unconstitutional? We have a constitution?

The last four items are largely Western concepts, if not practices, largely substituted here by the concept of "face", which means finding a way to make things sound good, and everybody can pretend things really are good.

The current Thai charter guarantees many individual rights.

Current Thai law severely restricts those individual rights, at the whim of the ruling class.

The Constitutional Court works for the ruling class, and they usually sort things out.

We are starting to see more and more protests, despite the draconian punishments and threats from the army overseers

I suspect the civil disobedience is just starting. So many broken souls out there. So many families utterly wrecked by carelessness, recklessness, malfeasance, incompetence, selective application of restrictions, and shutdown after shutdown, when the spread was allowed by poor policy, poor policing, and poor planning.

This is only the beginning. The youth WILL prevail over the dinosaurs. It has to happen.
