Thai virologists, at the National Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), have been developing two candidate nasal spray vaccines, or vaccine inhalers, which they hope will provide an option in the prevention of COVID-19 infection, not just prevent severe symptoms.

Dr. Anan Jongkaewwattana, director of Veterinary Health Innovation and Management Research Group told Thai PBS that most COVID-19 vaccines are being administered via intramuscular injections, to stimulate antibodies in the blood stream, but not enough in the nasal passage to prevent the virus invading the body, adding that COVID-19 enters the body through respiratory system.

The first inhaled vaccine developed at BIOTEC was the Adenovirus vaccine, with financial support from the National Vaccine Institute. Two doses of the vaccine were administered to mice injected with COVID-19 and it was discovered that the mice did not die or fall sick and they ate as normal with their weight remaining stable.

Not one "news" report of the heinous MURDER of a tourist in the Phuket 'sandbox'!

Disgusting protectionism for tourist dollars!

You will find some topics about that in the Phuket News forum.

I stopped suffering when I moved here from UK.  I had just found a cure after years of misery;' Kenilogue long acting steroid injection' instantly gave me at least a month's protection. (May have mis-spelled the maker's name.)

I agree that animals should be also protected from diseases, because they might cross to humans, but so far there is no indication it's happening with covid.

Altimmune the nasal spray vax was abandoned in the USA at the end of June. Looks, like it's not that simple, that covid is airborne and the best way is vax through inhallation.

The great majority of vax are through injection. Very few are pills.

so good luck with trying. Possibly would be more efficient to concentrate on one spray vax, than on many at the same time, because likely it will be wasted work

Israel also seems to be fairly close to a possible Covid-medicine cure...

88 patients, 0 intubated: Israeli ‘precision’ COVID drug wrapping up early trial

Placebo study still to come, but inventor says medication ‘could be a game changer’ after around 9 out of 10 participants in Greek trial are released from hospital within 5 days...

Yep.... Last week it was the turn of the witch doctors

Thai so smart.

I'm somewhat suspicious of a vaccine that the best they can say about seems to be, "the mice didn't die".

Or patients weren't intubated.

Wake me up when the first company declares via trial data that their covid vaccine provides full immunity like a small pox, measles, or polio vaccine.

Actually this is a treatment and not a vaccine.  As a treatment this does look promising.

Secretly clever.

So mice, dogs, deer can harbor covid?   Hasn't it also been found in other zoo animals? Another reason to get rid of soi dogs.

What was the DR comment? " We are not slow". More worried about face.   Thailand is a good place for clinical trials right now.  Any coincidence?

Who usually works with animals but has decided to help out anyway and has been working doggedly to prevent a catastrophe before herd immunity can kick in. In field experiments , mice have remained stable and none have bought the farm.

Synairgen also working on a cure.

I wish Thailand (or the media) would quit embarrassing itself by making these outlandish claims.

It’s not that Thais are dumb, it’s that other countries and companies have way, way, way more resources to throw at these problems.

Like what happened to the vaccine Thai scientists were working on before Pfizer or any of the major drug companies had a workable product?

Silence?  Crickets?

This isn’t like making up tourism numbers. Real scientists are going to check your work.
