BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Department of Medical Science (DMS) has revealed that more than 90% of COVID-19 patients have been infected by the Delta variant of the virus.

 

DMS Director-General Dr Supakit Sirilak said the department has been studying new infections each week and, of the 1,632 samples surveyed last week, 1,499, or 91.9%, had been infected by the Delta variant, while 129, or 7.9%, had picked up the Alpha variant and 4, or 0.2%, had the Beta strain. No other strains of COVID-19 have been detected in Thailand so far.

 

He said the trend of infections in Thailand shows that the Delta variant is fast becoming the mainstream and can be found in every province, while the Alpha variant will eventually cease to exist. As for the Beta variant, it will remain in southern provinces and not spread to other regions.

 

According to Dr Supakit, currently, there are 354 patients with the Beta variant in Narathiwat, 4 in Phuket and one in Phatthalung. Unlike Delta, the Beta variant spreads more slowly and is easier to contain.

Someone please cogently explain the testing they use to determine this.

The US CDC says the PCR Test failed its review because it couldn’t differentiate between Covid and the Flu. So how valid is any of the testing? I don’t play a virologist on TV, but they’re identifying variants of something they’re not sure is Covid or the Flu?!?!

And the proven useless Sinovac against the Delta strain is still the go-to vaccine for the majority.

for over a month it should be nominated as the 4th wave.

Some doctors spelled it already around 6th of July.

That means extending this serious predicament to the end of year, when people will get their 2nd shot

it is false to say it "failed its full review" and false to say that it was withdrawn because the test couldn’t differentiate between SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses.

So, how did delta get here (if borders are closed and quarantine is effective) ... did it just transmute here?

Thailand is not an island. It shares borders with several nations including Myanmar which shares a border with India. Neither the Myanmar- India border nor the Myanmar-Thai border is impenetrable. And that applies to all the borders Thai shares with its neighbors.
