Six Thais still in with a chance at the AIG Women’s Open in Scotland

Out of Eleven Thais who qualified for the AIG Women’s Open at Carnoustie, there are still six playing the weekend.

So, does Thailand stand a chance of winning this worthy trophy again, after Ariya Jutanugarn won back in 2016?

Highest ranked Thai is Ariya’s eldest sister Moriya, who has a knack of creeping up the leader board. Her short game is ideal for links golf so maybe it could be her turn to shine.

That said Michanee Meechai has been playing great golf over the past few months and she is also on -5 tied fifth with Moriya.

Don’t discount Ariya, -2, Patty Tavatanakit at -1 and Pajaree Annanarukan Even alongside LET Tour leader Atthaya Thitikul.

The leaders are Georgia Hall from England ranked 45 in the world and America Mina Harigae ranked 65.

Weather beware

So far, the Scottish weather has been kind, but apparently the weather forecast is for rain this weekend.

This links course can turn a great round into a stinker, just be finding a deep bunker or three, so everyone from Even upwards has a great chance of still winning on Sunday.

All Thais are now used to the cooler weather, but perhaps Atthiya who new plays on the Ladies European Tour is used to the wind and rain more than most.

However, my money is on Moriya Jutanugarn winning.  Also in form Pajaree Annanarukan who won her first LPGA event last month in Northern Ireland could be in with a shout as well.

But beware of American Lexi Thompson,  with local club member on her bag, she has a great advantage. Maybe a great help to Moriya too, as she will tee off with Lexi today!!!!
