BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s parliament has approved charter amendments to switch to using two ballots instead of one in a general election after the joint sitting of MPs and senators voted to pass the amendments during a session that began on Tuesday.

The parliamentarians were called to cast their votes yesterday on a motion to endorse a key change to the amendment proposal. Under the amendments, there will be one ballot for electing a constituency MP and another for a party list MP.

The amendments were drafted by a committee comprised of MPs and senators. The proposal specified nine sections in the charter for modification. The sections cover legal content which must be reviewed to accommodate the new, two-ballot election method.

However, only four sections were slated for amendments, as the committee resolved to drop some sections it deemed unnecessary and which could subject its members to legal complications later.

When is it then, the election?

How about voting for those 250 senators who just got given the posts? no election will be valid with those people still there

You mean 89 years since 1932 divided by 13 successful coups. The winner (drum roll) is military rule every 6-7 years.

Can we have the election this year theres enough time to get it organised .while we wait for the promised vaccines

I'm sure any amendments are in their favour.

This benefits only Palang Pracharat and Pheua Thai.  Maybe they will form the next government together and bring home Thaksin after a massive offshore payment from him. In Thai politics there are no permanent friends or foes.

Has the committee the authority to propose changes? Has a referendum taken pl!ace about changing the constitution? Does parliament have authority to change the constitution? After all, I was under the impression that only the National Council for Peace and Order people could do that.

A spokeshub, who asked not be shamed as unathorized to comment, clarified the real votes will be anulled and the those matching the true needs will be inserted based on the US scheme where instead of live observed humans counting slips all kinds of jiggery trumpery dimpled chads etc.
