According to Khairul Ridzuan Mat Said, all Merdeka Day Convoys must first seek authorisation from the National Security Council (NSC).

While people can still enjoy National Day, the state NSC director stated that everyone must follow the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“We understand that many people want to hold convoys in honour of National Day.
However, because the pandemic is still ongoing, all convoys must obtain permission from the NSC and the police,” he stated.

On Monday, Khairul Ridzuan remarked this after attending the National Day celebrations with members of the media at the Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah complex at Jalan Raja Musa Mahadi (Aug 30).

He stated that all applications will be reviewed and approved as needed.

“We don't have exact data, but we've received a number of applications that we'll have to look into one by one.
Covid-19 cases are currently averaging between 800 and 1,000 new cases per day in Perak, so we must be cautious,” said Khairul Ridzuan.

“We wouldn't be able to approve all applications,” he explained, “and our primary focus is on government agencies and those who have finished their vaccinations.”
