50 arrested – including foreign nationals – as authorities raid Phnom Penh’s famous ‘Blue Chilli’ bar

One of Phnom Penh’s most iconic LGBT venues was raided last night for breaking Government rules on gatherings of above 15 people.

 

At around 11.50pm on September 3, 2021, joint forces of Daun Penh District Unity Command cracked down on the “Blue Chili” bar on Street 178 in Sangkat Chey Chumneah, Khan Daun Penh after reports of excessive dancing and partying at the venue.

 

The authorities arrested around 50 individuals – including several foreign nationals – and took them to the district hall to be tested for COVID-19 and ‘Delta’. They will also face legal action.
