Almost 130,000 youths in Thailand, aged between 6 and 18, were found to be infected with COVID-19 from April until September 11, with 69,628 cases alone in August, said Dr. Suwanchai Wattayingcharoenchai, director-general of Health Services Department, yesterday (Tuesday).

Of all the cases since April, 116,742 are Thai and 12,423 are non-Thai. Infections among youths were 2,426 cases in April this year, 6,432 cases in May, 6,023 cases in June to 31,377 cases in July before skyrocketing in August, even though all schools remain closed.

The death toll is 15 and most of those had underlying conditions. Dr. Suwanchai attributed the surge in infections among the young to active screening and confirmed cross infection from those close to them, particularly their families.

Before the young did not need a vax and now they do? Young people have never had a problem with covid....

That was the early COVID era theory and promoted strongly. Yet they still weren't sure about the bug and children.

They have been proven wrong ever since.

Children, the world over, have have been averaging a very rate of infections, severe illness and death for several months now.

It was also suggested, early on, that kids didn't really require the first round of vaccinations because of their so called youthful natural immunity.

All of this nonsense and whimsy has been proven to be wrong.

So now that its the youngs turn for a vax, they now need it, where as before when it was not their turn they did not need it?

129.165 "infected"?

And how many of them are without symptoms?

Before Covid people without symptoms were called healthy, but the times they are a-changing.

15 dead, most of them with "underlying conditions"? A good  reason for school closures that lasts more than a year now. Before Civid anyone would have called that hysteria.

If they've been diagnosed as infected one would assume they had symptoms?

Quoting from the CDC, until the Delta came?  The youth immune system is stronger but from the photo it doesn't mean you can't take precaution like social distant.  ????   As we know now since the beginning things change which is what the virus has done so what might apply in the beginning might no longer I'm one that believes in general " government can't run anything "  not only that they can't seem to even communicate to us the reason for the changes the reason everyone seems to be fighting every suggestion?????

One should think so, but it's wrong. As soon as PCR test is positive, you're "infected". Symptoms or not.

Another fact, but OT here: In Germany, if your PCR-test is positive and you die within 28 days, you are a Covid victim, even if you had an accident on the street or a deadly heart attack.

It's true that normal kids with no illness has an extremely low chance of dying with covid 19, but they do get long term side effects from covid 19 just like adults do, and it's not just about protecting the kids from covid 19.

The delta variant created a different scenario, compared to the time when alpha only roamed.

If we let the Delta spread amongst all the kids without any vaccines/restrictions/lockdowns, they would spread it to adults who are at a greater risk of dying.

Both the unvaccinated and vaccinated group of adult.

Could we avoid vaccinating the kids?

Maybe if everyone above age 15 would take their shots so we could reach the total % needed, but that's not going to happen when we have so many that refuse to take their shots.

So now it's the kids that has to do it for them.....

More healthy kids dying on the roads in one day that in the entire pandemic ! Crazy closure."

Not so fast Richard. As others have indicated, it's the danger of children, who may be less at risk themselves, infecting us adults. I have a 15 yr old son, I am at high risk age and only had one vaccine shot so far. My son has learned online for the past several weeks, and I was hoping for him to get back to school now. But the school, the biggest school in Chiang Mai, gives the option from next week. I will now wait, past his holiday and see the next  September stats. and for my second shot, due end October.

It is a well publicised fact, that the Delta variant of covid seems to infect a much higher percentage of younger people than all the othervariants do.
