Brokers jump ship and abandon more than 20 Cambodian workers

A group of prospective Cambodian, illegal border hoppers were abandoned by the brokers who took off with their money. Svay Chek District Police discovered 22 Cambodian workers who were abandoned by their brokers at 4:30 p.m. on October 13. They were discovered at Techo Phnom Chhat 317 village, Svay Chek commune, Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey.

 

The Svay Chek District Police Inspector, Col. Chea Sloh, told local news on October 14 that the vay Chek District Police Inspectorate and Techo Phnom Chhat Village Chief and villagers discovered the workers. The would-be-border hoppers were found behind the home of one of the villagers.

 

Authorities discovered that the workers were from various parts of the country. Of the 22, 6 are from Oddar Meanchey, 1 from Battambang, 6 people from Preah Vihear, and 9 people from Banteay Meanchey. The workers told the police that they each paid approximately $195 each to the brokers. Those from Banteay Meanchey told police that they each paid $2.5 each.
