When it is time to renew his visa can he change to a nonO based on marriage to a Thai and renew his work permit. He has been married for 6 years. BritTim Posted October 21, 2021 Share Posted October 21, 2021 Changing the reason for your permission to stay from working to marriage to a Thai should, in principle, be possible, and you are supposed to be allowed a work permit when on such an extension. However, it has been known for the immigration office or labour office to create problems. If you mention the immigration office and labour office concerned, someone on here may be able to confirm whether or not they are rogue offices. He can change the reason for extension from teaching to one based upon marriage to a Thai. What financial proof will he be using to apply for the extension of stay. It requires proof of 40k baht income or 400k baht in the bank. When he applies for the work permit he will need include his marriage certificate with the application. If he changes the reason to marriage does he still have to have back to back school contracts (with a change of schools) or can there be a time gap without invalidating his visa? A extension of stay based upon marriage is not dependent upon keeping a job since it based upon marriage to a Thai not working or teaching.
