The family of a missing Adelaide grandmother, who is believed to have been murdered in Malaysia, has appealed to Prime Minister Scott Morrison for assistance in apprehending her assailant.

Anna Jenkins vanished while visiting the nation to see her ailing mother, but the case was never pursued by local police, and Australian authorities never intervened.

Greg Jenkins has a backpack full of his mother's dying belongings that he has received, but he believes he will never receive justice for her.

"They just put mum's belongings in two bags and dropped them and said, 'you're right to take them,'" Mr Jenkins explained.

His mother went missing in Malaysia in December 2017, but he claims authorities did little to help him and his family, forcing them to conduct their own investigation.

Mr Jenkins was led to a country roadside by a tip in August of last year, where he discovered items belonging to his mother.

He remarked, "Within two minutes of being there, I found mum's shoe."

Mr Jenkins then discovered some of her bones buried nearby amid rubble.

He told his sister Jen, who was at home in Australia, the bad news.

"We knew it wasn't good," she explained, "but you still have some hope that she'll be okay."

Despite the fact that Anna is presumed murdered, Malaysian authorities have closed the case, leaving the Jenkins family in limbo.

Today, SA Best MP Frank Pangallo wrote to the Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, requesting them to begin conversations with the Malaysian government "as soon as possible" to commence a formal investigation.

Mr Pangallo said, "We have to remember that an Australian citizen has gone missing and was most likely murdered."

"I'll be urging the South Australian parliament to write to Malaysian authorities, including the king, urging them to intervene."

At the very least, Anna's remains should be freed so that she can be returned to her family.

Mr Jenkins said, "We're trying to seek help to get mum's bones back so we can make a suitable tribute for her."
