ASEAN NOW Posted November 2, 2021 Share Posted November 2, 2021 On Sunday, the COVAX Facility delivered a new supply of 523,200 doses of the AstraZeneca Oxford Covid-19 vaccine to Laos. The Government of Laos will employ the AstraZeneca vaccinations to boost its ongoing efforts to vaccinate the Lao people against Covid-19 and achieve its aim of 50% immunization coverage by the end of the year. A TRI-M-G Asian Airlines plane delivered the new consignment of Covid-19 vaccines to Wattay International Airport in Vientiane Capital on Sunday afternoon. The vaccines, consisting of 523,200 doses of the AstraZeneca Oxford Covid-19 vaccine, were donated through the COVAX Facility, a collaboration between the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization (WHO). The latest shipment is part of a larger effort to ensure that everyone in the world has access to COVID-19 immunizations. At Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Sanong Thongsana, WHO Representative to Laos Dr. Jun Gao, UNICEF Representative to Laos Dr. Pia Rebello Britto, and senior Ministry of Health officials attended a vaccine transfer ceremony. The vaccines, according to Dr. Sanong, will be used to boost efforts to vaccinate the public against Covid-19 and meet the government's goal of 50% immunization coverage by the end of the year.
