Thai Isp Registration

When renewing my internet package I had to give my name address and passport number what are the possible consequences of this. Also does anyone know where I can obtain a list of the internet laws in Thailand.

I'm scared that in a few years time I could get deported because I once downloaded a picture of a naked bird with Anna Kournikova's head pasted on top of it!! :o

:o okay I asked for that one but I am slightly scared at the spped in which you came up with that picture. Did you have that on your hard drive already?? If so you're sicker than I am.

Any serious replies still welcomed.

Lets not turn this thread into a weird collection of celebrity animal porn

not sure of the internet laws in thailand, ISPs should have something on the company's website or startup package...some block certain porn sites from thailand already.

are they going to send you a monthly bill and needed your address for mailing?

Can't resist this. Time to break my Duck (First Post.)

But seriously. I am frequently dumbfounded by the requirements some businesses have for documentation. My Moo Bahn required Passport, house registration, birth certificate, Wife's IDCard, Marriage license and a bank reference before they would issue a parking permit.

Needless to say I refused and I now carry bolt cutters to remove any clamp that might be applied.

No it's not for billing I use pay as you go cards. The ISP I use (e-go) gives you bonus hours if you renew an existing package but when you do so you have to register and thats when they ask for the information.

There are no Internet-specific laws covering "cybercrime" as yet. Regarding porno, the existing laws are supposed to apply. The way the current government implements this is to try and prevent the "distribution" of porno (by forcing ISPs to block it), specifically on Thai-language sites or sites aimed at Thais. Their concern is [a] to ensure Thailand's online image to the rest of the world is a moral one, and to prevent Thai kids seeing nasty stuff. They don't seem to care much about farang porno sites or about individuals downloading porn.

The proxy cache server logs of ISPs are enormous, so they don't keep them long at all. They might be able to find out what you downloaded yesterday, but not much further back than that. By the time any government agency requested the info, it would be long gone.

Don't sweat it. As long as you aren't distributing porn through a web site, no one is going to be interested.

cheers for the information camerata, I suspected that would be the case however I am perhaps more confused as to why my name, address and passport number are required!

It sounds like E-go is trying to prevent fraudulent claims for the bonus hours.

Thais seem to love gathering useless data just for the sake of it and because "it's there". I agree with the concensus and it should not cause you any grief. But I would not do it on principle alone, and TIT, so who knows what nasty suprise could await you down the line. I hate giving out data for no reason.

T-Net by CAT cards are B335 for unlimited 30 days. 3 hour limit per session.

They give you a username and password in the kit.

I just got one yesterday and doesn't seem any worse than other services where I am (Udon Thani).

You dial 998 to connect. This is a free call, right?
