Sorry, people, just got this email in my mail box this morning.

It's really saddening what is going on.

To the Eukanuba buyers: I'm sorry it's also on the recall list. Be very carefull with what the sellers are telling you, after all they feel it in their pockets if they can't sell the last bags of dog/cat food.

Safe Pet Food for Dogs and Cats

News Flash: - FDA issues new recall list with pet food that contains rice protein. Some rice protein contains melamine - the toxic agent that is hurting dogs and cats. So now you don’t want to buy dog or cat food that contains wheat gluten or rice protein.

With this new recall list, this already sad situation has gotten even more confusing. We’ve searched the Internet looking for online petfood stores that do not sell food that is on the recall list - so you can shop knowing the food you are buying is not on the recall list. We found several stores that are safe, great and only sell safe petfood - we recommend shopping at PETCO, Only Natural Pets and SmartPak Canine .

Nienke,

We have to be a bit careful not to spread panic.

The Euknuba foods that have been recalled are their 'wet' foods - which I have never seen in Thailand - not their dry foods.

Eukanuba have catagorically stated that their dry foods do not contain any of the affected substances, and they have NOT been recalled.

I have checked the FDA link this morning and only their wet foods - Dog chunks and dig bites in gravy - have been recalled.

That is my understanding, so if anyone has different information, I would appreciate it.

Must admit I didn't read the FDA link.

It gives me a stomach upset, all the lies that are spread, information hidden for months and years. How come that they 'just' find out about this new load? How much damage has been done between the first recall and this recall? This misery is going on for months now with thousands of pets dead and even more with serious health problems? Not even to mention the scandal with the human food.

You know that in Canada at least 600 pet owners have sued Menu Foods, and that Menu Foods has been harrassing them over the phone?

It's a dirty and sick game. First pet owners has been brainwashed with loads of lies about the so-called 100% balanced and complete pet food, and on top of that they think they can get away (and they did for a looooong time) with putting the most shitty ingredients in the food, as long as it fits the label (which doesn't tell you that much anyway).

With all their beautiful words and advertisement, they just have shown that they really don't give a shit about the very pets that eat their produced pet food (or life in general). As long as it sells, no matter what.

I'd rather be safe than sorry with my dogs and prepare the food myself. And that on it, is already difficult enough. Not because of the preparation but because of where the ingredients are coming from and what has been put in or on them.

The problem in these recalled pet foods are the rice gluten and corn gluten contents in the pet foods. I choose those brands that are on the safe list and avoid brands that are on the recalled list even if it's only their wet food items or snacks that are recalled (to be on the safe side).

You can buy "Merrick" at Manoon petshop for large bags for big dogs. If you want to change a brand, because most of the brands that are not on the recalled list are not avaliable in thailand at all. And buying overseas is very very expensive, the shipping fee is almost the same price if not cost more than the bag of dog food itself. I used to give my chihuahuas "Chicken soup for pet lovers" and "Nutro", but after seeing their wet food being recalled, i stopped giving them those, just to be on a cautious side.

I wanted to get merrick for my dogs, but they only come in big bags that my dogs can swim inside :o

Just curious. Has anyone used the Regal brand (US Grain)? None of their products are on any recall list, but that doesn't mean it is better than Eukanuba. It seems to have a lot of things that appear to be good for dogs, but then again, I wouldn't really know (hence the question).

i think we may consider the old fashioned method of collecting leftover food from the kibbutz dining room (at moment all the trash can cats get fed this plus cat food by the old kibbutznik cat lady) and thats what the dogs will get: a good mix of meat, veggies, rice and whatever.... and the occasional chicken from the culls in the chicken coops...

This is a pity. Sure, I made my own dog food (rice, some veg, beef or fish in the rice cooker), but I think dogs need kibble and bones to keep their teeth strong and clean. And nothing fills the belly like dry food.

We have the same scares here in Canada, and the new trend is this packaged "raw" crap that looks like throw up. My landlord started his dogs on that and they were sick for three days. If I hear anything new I'll post it, but Nienke and all our doggy docs seem to be on the case already.
