Visa to Thailand

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine, who is not a member, will not have his work contract renewed when it expires end February 2022, he has an 8 year old son who he supports 100% financially and 95% care, he and the mother are not married and live seperately, he does not want to work anymore, what visa options would be best for him.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Non-o child visa until his son is like 20 years old is the best option, not sure wether you still need the mother for that once the child is at the age 7-8 years old but I guess Ubonjoe will know that part. Via agent you can get it done for sure with just a copy of the mother ID card / housebook.

He could apply for a one year extension of stay based upon being the parent of a Thai. He would need 400k baht in a Thai bank on the day he applies or proof at least 40k baht income.

Before he can apply he would have to have his parenthood legitimized since he is not married to their mother at family court if his child is less than 7 years old. At 7 or older it can be done at a Amphoe.

Info can be found in this topic. https://aseannow.com/topic/381917-how-to-gain-parental-rights-as-a-father/

He could change the reason for his extension based upon working to the one for being his child father after the above is done.

If he needed more time he could get a 60 day extension to visit his child.
