Solemn farewell: Cambodians bid final farewell to Prince Norodom Ranariddh

Featured Replies

Amid a somber atmosphere, the royal casket containing the body of Prince Norodom Ranariddh, who died on November 28 in France at the age of 77, was taken along the Samdech Pan Street in Daun Penh district and Norodom street to Botum Park where his body was cremated in a royal pyre lit by King Norodom Sihamoni.

Befitting the royal tradition, the casket which was taken from the residence at 7am, was draped in royal yellow with the Cambodian flag on top and placed on a golden swan float accompanied behind by a dragon float with traditional musicians hitting the gong, beating the drums, and playing traditional ceremonial music.

The monks who were seated on the two floats were seen chanting prayers as the floats paraded along the streets with throngs of people standing along the roadsides to pay their last respects and homage to the late Prince.
