This could be an interesting strategy for the Metropolitan Police. Use garbage trucks instead of "meat wagons" to transport demonstrators to jail. Why didn't we think of that in the USA? :o

I see that Thailand Outlook TV are reporting that Veera the PTV man had his aide block the entrance to a housing complex so that Prem supporters could not deliver a letter to him. Obviously this tactic of delivering letters to influential ones is a no-no judging from the actions of our "defender of democracy" Veera.

Hypocricy is not an easy word to spell.

I additionally see that Thailand Outlook TV are reporting that the PTV boys our self styled defenders of democracy are now opposed to any changes to the police. Now why exactly would defenders of democracy oppose things like public oversight? Oh yes opportunism and the fact that they are actually pro-Thaksin demonstartors and couldnt care about democracy. Come to think about I have a vague memory of some controversial policy the police carried out for Mr. Thaksin and his earstwhile party members now heading up the lets get violent and return the great extra judicial killer to power movement. Now what was that policy.......? It will come to me in aminute no doubt.....

Sanam Luang demonstrators burn replica of constitution to show displeasure at CDA decision yesterday

Government opposition conducting demonstrations in front of Parliament expressed their disapproval at the Constitution Drafting Assembly's decision to approve the 2007 constitutional draft.

500 protesting members of Sanam Luang demonstration group traveled to Parliament and remained in the area throughout the day as a sign of their disapproval of the Constitution Drafting Assembly's decision to implement the 2007 constitution. Demonstrators alleged that the CDA's decision will aid the Council for National Security in maintaining their power and allow the nation to fall into dictatorial rule.

Demonstration members set fire to a replica of the constitution, before dispersing for the day. An altercation also took place when supporters of the government entered the area, resulting in thrown rocks and bottles and an exchange of verbal tirades.

Authorities were able to control the situation and no casualties were reported.

Onto other news.... large rats and numerous cockroaches were discovered today in Nana Plaza... without work permits! The interim government promises a crackdown on these illegal vermin. However it has not been decided if these creatures will be relocated to another location or if there legal status will be changed. Thousands of protesters gathered this evening at Nana to demand that these creatures be deported, but their voices were overshadowed by the dancing troupe at the north-east corner strip bar. To calm the protesters, 1000 police officers were stationed in the far south of Thailand. Radicals from a non-sectarian group, that have it in their plans to overthrow the government, were fortunately vacationing in the Philippines. Thus it was a quiet and restive day in the South and at Nana.

Advertisement..... Drink Chang beer! It make you strong and bullet proof. If wife give you trouble, offer her a beer. After she refuses, drink it yourself. You will feel better. Thai promise.

Back to the news....

We only got a few demonstrators because the government made rain come. Guess it sounds better than the flood of cash being turned off. Guess it sounds better than the demo canvassers deciding to keep the cash for themselves. I wonder how many would actually believe the rain fantasy?

Given how much effort is expended to link in the popular mind the rain making skill, and associations with it {rule avoidance technique 1} then I have some sympathy with having to refute the statement, as opposed to ignoring it.

Is there a fund I could contribute to in order to help these PTV/TRT pyromaniacs get the therapy they need?

SRJ Some pro-Thaksin academic type dude was also discussing the merits of burning ballot papers for the constitution referendum the other day.

Hm. on balance, not really, assuming you are referring to this Article.

..I think to 'burn' the ballots would be more original, as Chaiyan Chaiyaporn has made the 'tearing up' a shameful act instead of a splendid gesture of protest.

However, I said that I did not wish anyone would 'tear up' or 'burn' the ballots because of the risk of being arrested and jailed--particularly considering how the judicial power tends to be used these days, that would unnecessarily make trouble. ...

He then goes on to argue about using the spoilt ballot papers approach to register discontent with the situation.

Mr. Sombat was charged by about 4-5 military forces while after 20 minutes of his speech asking the Council for National Security (CNS) to resign. This is following the strategies of the "spread out campaign" by the DAAD to maximize the anti-coup protests around the country. !

At the present time no charge is made against him yet. Sombat is in the process of being detained at Meng Rai Maharaj Camp. Associates of Sombat are being denied entry to the camp. Chiang Rai is currently under rule of the martial law.

The coordinator of the DAAD in Chiang Rai said that he has contacted with the central DAAD in Bangkok. Currently, they are in the process of negotiating with the relevant officials.

By Theerawat Khamthita & Kultida Samabuddhi

The arrest and detention of key anti-coup activist and webmaster Sombat Boonngarm-anong has fuelled the anti-coup movement and sparked concern for activists over mounting attempts to silence critics of the coup-engineered charter.

Mr Sombat, a staunch opponent of the Council for National Security, was arrested by a joint police-military force while giving a speech in downtown Chiang Rai on Friday at 7pm. He was released at 7.45pm yesterday after being detained for 24 hours.

Unless there is something we are not seeing this at best looks like an own goal and at worse.....

Personally I would find it hard to think Sombat who works for child protection is in cahoots with some of the Chiang Rai TRT influential ones and their underground campaigns considering the business some are invovled in.

I wonder what it is he said on stage that got him arrested....

His volunteer work and all means nothing, especially if he was involved with TRT and is still fighting for TRT. I wonder how much he's worth today compared to before he started receiving donations, what scams is he involved in?

Thaksin's legacy is that he damaged the infrastructure of the '97 charter, the operation of a democracy within Thailand {checks, balances, and accountability}, and despite his protestations did little to advance the case of the poor within the country as a whole.
