Do The (pattaya) Police Torture Confessions From Arrestees?

Recommended Posts

Mr. Rosner is suspicious of why so many arrestees here in Pattaya not only confess to their crime when arrested, but also confess to prior crimes and sometimes crimes committed by others. Mr. Rosner cannot believe that all these idiots really are idiots.

Mr. Rosner suspects that the same police who might pull one over expecting to line their pockets with a few hundred baht, are not too far off of coercing a confession from anyone arrested. It is much too much of a coincidence that both Thai and Farangs not only admit but also incriminate themselves further.

Comments?

Excerpted from Pattaya City News:

On Thursday night undercover police acting on information from informants arrested a 40 year old Hungarian national in front of Best Supermarket in north Pattaya and charged him with illegally selling the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra and its derivative Kamagra. Mr Gyorgy Kardos was arrested after an undercover officer contacted him and asked him to supply a quantity of Viagra for around 1,500 baht a packet. Mr Kardos arranged to meet the undercover officer in front of Best Supermarket where he was arrested. He was then taken back to his place of residence in north Pattaya where police impounded 135 packets of Viagra, 150 packets of Kamagra gel and three tubes of KY Jelly.

He was then taken to Soi 9 station where the assembled sex enhancement drugs and gels were put on display for the usual media scrum. Mr Kardos admitted to selling these products for the past year to tourists in bars, but this is the first time police have been able to catch him.

Mr. Rosner is suspicious...

On the PCN site you can see him smiling with all his stuffs in front of him.In this instance I think he admitted everything the cops wanted. He hoped sentence halved in court if confession at police.

In other instances, hmmm well don't know.I remember the belgian guy accused of killing his GF in his Jomtien condo explained in an interview in Belgium the police threaten him to modify CCTV footages if he didn't confess :o

But not sure he was not guilty.

And that is exactly the point - they are all seen smiling and laughing with the smiling policemen -

When was the last time you heard someone deny all charges - not cooperate?

Mr. Rosner remembers one time in 1 year.

Mr. Rosner finds that suspicious.

Is it usual for prisoners who have recently been tortured to smile and laugh with their smiling and laughing torturers?

Yes, when they stop for the camera.

I don't think they get tortured. The thais more likely. For foreigners it is sais that they have the ambassey behind them to make sure nothing goes wrong!I have this from a book about a Dutch guy who sit many years In'Bangkok Hilton'and made it clear that this not happens, but yes with Thais and people from particular countries like Myanmar(who do not have any support from foreign affairs,it was an interesting read.About they are all confessing before'they do time'has a different reason I guess, when confessing the jailtime will be reduced significant. And try to take the picture infront of you how it will be like in a Thai jail? :o Yeah that will be a big reason to just confess, sitting there is allready a very bad omen.........

Don't you just love the way Mr Rosner phrased his OP, though? Ms Rain thought it was hilarious! :D :D

Mr kmart was also singularly impressed with the usage of the third person in the OP. :o

I was sitting outside a cell while the police physically got a confession from a guy that stole from my gf of the time, she was very impressed, but once i got to know her more I felt a little sorry for the guy as he probably only recovered what she had stolen from him, anyway, it was mainly boots to the head from what I could gather

I was at pattaya police station last week to pay a fine after getting clamped,.i sat in the waiting area and was amazed at how quiet it was, although it was full of people.. the police along with the people waiting were all watching tv and 2 of the officers were having lunch at the counter,. i actually saw the " INTERROGATION ROOM " .i didnt hear any screams or see any thumb screws or anything but that sign did make me think,. actually i doubt if they knock anyone about unless they start it, i would think most know they wil get it over with quicker if they "spill the beans",. unlike our countrys where they would be bailed for everything including murder i think most people in thai custody want to get it over as quick as possible, but its only a guess,...

It is illegal to sell Viagra?

And what is illegal about KY Jelly; i'm sure i saw some at 7-11?

You need to be licenced in Thailand to import and sell viagra or similar,ie pharmacys ,doctors ,hospitals etc, as for KY im not sure but id guess you can get that anywhere as you would have a job overdosing on it ! :o

Mr JD immediately thought JRTexas and WeHo for some odd reason ......

Confessing when getting caught cold/red-handed/inflagrante' etc isn't as stupid as the OP thinks :o Folks that are not caught cold tend not to get the same level of press exposure .... since even for the police, ruining someone's reputation is kinda sketchy

I think it is infact illegal to trade in KY without a licence.  Infact the police have arrested severl gangs in the past, but no one has been charged as they all managed to slip through the bars of the jail :D

Where does one go to get a KY trading license?... and what certifications does one need from one's embassy?

And I don't think they call it torture anymore... "Enhanced Interrogation Technics"...

Well, lets hope Thailand is not like old American movies, where everytime the light flickers, somone is getting his nuts fried :D , because my lights flickers quite often :o

Kind regards :D

Mr. Rosner wonders aloud why such a fascination with KY Jelly? But then Mr. Rosner realized that it might be a very good conductor of electricity and it was then that he understood.

Monsieur Caliban remembers fondly his times watching Pattaya City News and enjoying the "suspect" re-enact the crime on video, ostensibly at the "suggestion" of the investigating officers. Quite novel, he thought.

If they were tortured with KY, Viagra & other sexual aids - some people could conceivably be smiling. :o

Soundman.

Oddly enough most of these people that are interrogated always have seem to have had a motorcycle accident & their faces often don't look at all like the typical road rash. And you never get to see the crashed bike.

My guess is they offer the indigents to walk out with his Hum & Kai attached if he just cooperates it will be a lot better hel_l ya!

Could you pass me those RUSTY PLIERS OVER THERE :o

Selling Viagra outside Friendship supermarket? There must be at least three clinics within 500 metres that you can buy it over the counter.

Still it's one more hardened criminal off the streets of Pattaya.

Hardened? Is that a joke?

Mr. Rosner would be quite right in his assumption I do believe.

Many years ago I broke my ankle in a motorcycle accident and as part of my recuperation therapy I visited a clinic where a rather cute young Aussie female took me into a room and lay me on a couch before producing a tube of KY Jelly at which point I got a rush of blood to a certain part of my anatomy. I was rather disappointed to find that instead of being used for it's usual purpose the KY was actually spread onto my ankle and the young lady then used some form of electrode pad to massage said ankle.

The electrical conductivity properties of KY Jelly are down to it being water based I would say.
