Joachim B. Hansen continued his remarkable run of form in Dubai as he fired an opening 65 to lead by one shot after day one of the 2022 Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic.

The Dane won the AVIV Dubai Championship in November and the following week achieved his second top ten in a Rolex Series event at the DP World Tour Championship.

 

Meanwhile Former champion Sergio Garcia and countryman Pablo Larrazábal were then at five under alongside 2017 European Number One Tommy Fleetwood, veteran Thai Thongchai Jaidee and Italy's Andrea Pavan.

 

Reigning European Number One Collin Morikawa was at four under alongside World Number Five Viktor Hovland, Thai Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Spaniard Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez, Finn Kalle Samooja and South African Brandon Stone but the day belonged to Hansen, who holed out in the twilight on the last.

At the age of fifty-two, Jaidee has made the move into senior’s golf, but he showed he can still mix it with the young guns, staying blemish free.

 

Kiradech Aphibarnrat who missed the cut in Abu Dhabi last week came back firing six birdies and two bogies to finish with a round of 68 to finish tied ninth.

 

Great support for Thai players in Dubai

 

The other Thai competing this week, Jazz Janewattananond is tied forty-six on -1 with a round of 71, so touch wood hopefully all three should make the cut.

Over in the States, the eight Thais had a mixed day in Florida at the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Roi.

 

 

Pajaree Ananarukan had the best result tied thirty on -2, followed by Patty Tavatanakit and Jasmine Suwananpura who are tied 47 on -1.

 

Rookie Atthaya Thitikul is even along with Pornanong Phatlum and Wichanee Meechai, while Moira Jutanuagarn is on +1 tied eighty-one and sister Ariya struggled at +3 and is tied 103.

 

At this rate, the cut line is likely to be sixty-three.
