What is the advantage to replace removable full dentures by dentures with implants?

Hi, for 16 years i have the same removable full dentures (up and down) and i was thinking that it's time to replace it.

Although i do not have yet complaints about them, I need more and more paste to fix them on the gums.

So I went to a Dental specialist and was quoted 240K ! for a system with 4 implants down and 4 implants up and still

keeping the possibility to remove them for cleaning. There are also fixed/permanent systems but I am not interested

in those because they require regular check ups and brushing everyday. Not brushing was the main reason why I lost

my teeth in the first place, so better not.

It's a lot of money (too expensive?) but I can affort it. But what concerns me, is it really wise to spend all that money

and going through the procedure, which can last for 6-8 months just to replace oldies which still do the job?

Or is it real big improvement what bite power and better tasting concerns?

TIA.

teeth fall out for a reason. If they fell out due rotting and eating too many sweets you may be ok. If they have fallen out due to smoking then denture implants - without bone graft -  may be impossible as they fell out due to jaw bone loss from smoking. I have a small lower denture, the dentists asked if i smoked - which i don't - though my consultant says bone loss may be tablet related.

just saying, as everybody think they can replace their teeth when they fall out easily, which aint necessarily so (cue bursting into song)

The Dentist checked the bones already and looks good so far to place implants.

There also has to be made a 3-D scan and then i know for sure.

BTW. I am not talking about partial denture but full denture, up and down, as replacement for older removable denture.

The same denture for 16 years, I would suggest your jawbones have shrunk with age, and need replacing no matter what you choose.

Implants are not necessarily the answer and you need to discuss with the specialist the possiblities of bone infection due to procedures.

Get a second or third opinion, factor you age into the risk management of the procedures.

Your age would be a major factor , no need spending all

that money ,if you are over 70 ,and when the current false

teeth are not a major problem.

regards Worgeordie

I am 60.

If there is a huge advantage (biting power, taste improvement, etc) of implants for full dentures compared to the classic false teeth, I will consider the implants, if not I will stay with the old ones and replace when really needed.
